The "Guide" contains supporting data for design to chapter SNiP II-23-81 "Steel structures. Design standards."
The “Guide” is aimed at further increasing labor productivity in design, reducing the metal consumption of structures and improving the quality of design through the widespread introduction of the tabulation principle.
The first part of the "Manual" contains tables of design parameters according to SNiP II-23-81, necessary for selecting sections of steel structure elements. Tables will be provided in subsequent parts bearing capacity elements of steel structures and components.
The manual is intended for use in the design departments of the All-Union Association Soyuzmetallostroyniproekt of the USSR State Construction Committee.
The following took part in the preparation of the manual: engineers: G.B. Gordon, P.I. Suzdalov, A.A. Bychkov, A.I. Grodzensky, A.M. Gubanov, A.M. Petrov, V.I. Slobodenyuk, O.V. Fomenkov, candidate of technical sciences. Sciences P.N. Trinity.

1. GENERAL PROVISIONS
1.1. The “Guide” applies to the design of structural steel structures of buildings and structures for various purposes and contains auxiliary tables for selecting sections of steel structure elements in accordance with SNiP II-23-81.
1.2. The first part of the “Manual” contains tables of values of design parameters according to SNiP II-23-81 and maximum joint forces.
1.3. The choice of steel grades for structural elements must be made in accordance with the requirements of SNiP II-23-81 "Guidelines for the use of steel for structural steel structures of buildings and structures" (TsNIIproektstalkonstruktsiya) and letters of the USSR State Construction Committee.
1.4. When designing, it is necessary to use the profiles given in the “Reduced range of hot-rolled, bent, bent-welded profiles, sheet steel, pipes and hardware supplied by metallurgical plants of the USSR and recommended for use in the design of building steel structures” Moscow, 1982.
1.5. The choice of gradation and sizes of parts, as well as the unification of the assortment, must be carried out in accordance with the recommendations of GOST 8032-56 “Preferred numbers and series of preferred numbers” and GOST 6636-60 “Normal linear dimensions”.
1.6. When delivering design drawings, you must comply following conditions:
Assemble structural elements (individual sending elements and all object structures from a minimum number of profiles);
If corners of the same caliber, but of different thicknesses are used in one sending element, the difference in thickness should be at least 2 mm;
Do not use identical profile sizes from different grades of steel in one structural element.
