It is impossible to perform the work of an insurance agent in a quality manner without knowledge of insurance law. After all, a specialist must explain to the client the subtleties of the regulatory and legal side, calculate possible risks, evaluate the legal side of the contract and forthcoming payments.
Benefits of being an insurance agent

Thanks to this, the specialist can independently plan his working day and the degree of work. At the same time, frequent communication with people develops in a specialist everything that is necessary for socialization in society: psychological stability, non-conflict, the ability to communicate, build relationships.
It is impossible not to mention such an advantage of this profession as availability. In addition, irritability and pragmatism develops from the constant desire to find as many clients as possible, which can have a negative impact on attitudes towards people in general.
But the main drawback of this profession is that at the very beginning of his career, an insurance agent cannot count on high profits, even if he is looking for clients all day long. The specificity of this work is such that a sufficient level of knowledge and skills can only be acquired by experience, and this is not one day of practically free work.

Every person in his life, most likely, had to insure something. This can be home insurance in case of any accidents that result in property damage, life and health insurance, or road liability insurance, which is in Russian Federation a must for every car owner. The insurance process seems to be quite simple: you enter into a contract and pay for its entire duration. small amounts money, so that in the event of certain incidents that are provided for in the terms of your contract, you can receive substantial compensation. And when you signed such a contract, you interacted with an insurance agent who told and explained everything to you. It seems to many that this is some kind of unattainable work, but in reality everything is much simpler. Anyone with the proper knowledge can get this profession. You can get a job with one of the many insurance companies, but there is also remote work insurance agent. More and more people are now working at home - that's the way it is modern world... However, this does not mean that such activities are somehow worse. This article will help you decide if working as an insurance agent from home or office is right for you.
What is the essence of the work?
Naturally, first of all, you need to figure out what the essence of this work is, so that you can understand whether you want such a career for yourself or whether you are attracted by something else. So, as you can easily understand from the name of the profession, an insurance agent is engaged in insurance, and he can insure a wide variety of things. The most common insurance is home, health, property, and so on. Your task will be to sell services to clients who contact your firm to obtain information and conclude a contract. You need to be very knowledgeable about the topic because it is highly specialized, so most of your clients will have no idea what is required of them. You must explain in detail all the nuances, and also convince the client that he really needs to insure what he has come to insure (an experienced agent will also convince him that he needs to insure something else). In general, you will need high communication skills and extensive knowledge in this area. An insurance agent with no work experience is unlikely to find a place in a large company, but this is not a profession that allows you to start yourself and earn experience in roundabout ways. So you will have to start with small companies, constantly moving to larger and more promising businesses. Fortunately, “no experience insurance agent” is not a stigma, and several years of experience have opened up a huge number of opportunities for you.
Where can you work?
The profession of an insurance agent is incredibly popular, as there are quite a decent number of large state-level insurers in the Russian Federation. At the same time, more and more private companies appear, offering similar services and promising clients a more human and personal approach. You shouldn't think that your goal is to work as an insurance agent at Rosgosstrakh. Reviews about this company from former employees, firstly, are not the most attractive. And secondly, often small companies can offer you much more comfortable conditions work and a decent salary, so in this profession it makes no sense for you to chase the largest companies, since small enterprises are very attractive for employees of this profession.
But in what directions will you work if you decide to choose this specialty for yourself? You can choose from several areas of activity at once, each of which has common features, but at the same time it is very different from others, even though they are all an insurance process. Most often, specialists are required in the direction personal insurance, which includes working with individuals who come to insure their lives, their health, insure themselves against force majeure, and so on. Given the visa regime, personal insurance is incredibly popular, which is why you should consider this line of business. However, this does not mean that only it exists. You can work in the direction of property insurance, liability insurance (the clearest example is CTP, that is compulsory insurance liability of drivers on the road in the event of a road traffic accident), as well as insurance of business risks, when the insurance company takes on all financial risks discoveries own enterprise... With the development of private business, this line of insurance is becoming more and more popular.
Some companies offer all areas of insurance at once - this is what, for example, promises you to work as an insurance agent in Rosgosstrakh (reviews say that the working conditions will be far from what you would dream of when you graduate from university in this specialty). Small businesses can concentrate on one or two lines of insurance. In general, you will have a lot of options and, accordingly, potential opportunities too.
History of the profession
By her own insurance activities in its infancy appeared as early as two thousand years BC, when groups of merchants agreed in advance among themselves about an honest distribution of losses in the event of attacks and robberies. Even then it was clear that people understand the need to insure themselves against various accidents.
Insurance acquired a more specific form in the era of ancient Rome, when specialized colleges began to appear. Members of these colleges collected contributions from people, let them grow at interest through their sources, in order to then be able to pay people a substantial amount if what they insured was damaged, destroyed, broken, and so on. Accordingly, it can be said that the members of these ancient Roman colleges were the first insurance agents.
In the Middle Ages, the first division of insurance directions happened. If earlier insurance was a single whole, now it has begun to be divided into personal and property. As a matter of fact, already in the Middle Ages, people began to separately insure their health, and separately - their belongings, houses, and so on. This was a big step in the development of insurance, which then continued to branch out, giving rise to the popular directions of liability or risk insurance today.
On the territory of Russia, insurance appeared only under Nicholas the First. To be more precise, in 1827 he issued a decree, according to which the first "organization" was created, which carried out insurance of people's property against fire. From that moment, insurance began to develop in Russia, so that the huge number of insurance companies that exist now in this country can thank Nicholas the First as the person who introduced this type of activity in Russia.
Insurance reached its peak in the twentieth century, when numerous Insurance companies, insurance capital began to grow much faster than before, as people began to get the opportunity to freely manage their money and realize how important it is to ensure a quiet life for themselves. The same trend continues to this day. The number of insurance companies is constantly growing, and more and more individuals and legal entities are aware of the need to protect their own interests. And that is why this profession is now extremely popular and in demand.
Responsibilities
Well, it's time to move on to the most serious questions, namely: what is the job of an insurance agent? What are his job duties? It's worth starting with the fact that this job is very similar to that of a sales manager, that is, you are a person who works for a specific company and sells its services. It's just that in this case, the services are more specific and much more difficult to understand, so the employee must have specialization and serious qualifications. But what exactly should he do?
The insurance agent's work plan is very extensive and includes many points. First, you will need to do active sales. This means that you will have to call potential customers, offer them your services, come to them or invite them to your office and, of course, conclude insurance contracts with them. Secondly, you will need to support the customer base that the company already has, that is, you will need to track the status of the contracts of existing customers in order to offer them a contract extension at the right time, and at the same time offer its extension, that is, adding new items of insurance. Thirdly, you will need to conduct consultations with clients, during which you will need to talk in detail about a particular service, answer all the client's questions and, of course, convince him to sign an agreement with you. Fourth, you will also have to do work that does not involve other people. This implies document management, which is now happening on the computer. It involves documenting all contracts, invoices and other papers that pass through your hands while you work. Fifth, it will be your responsibility to assess the damage for the further payment of the insurance claim. And finally, you will definitely have to deal with violations of insurance contracts, because they happen everywhere, so you will need to find out the reasons and take appropriate measures to eliminate them. At the same time, in a serious company, the work of an insurance agent is constantly being audited, and if you do not cope with any of these points, then you may have serious problems, starting with the deprivation of the premium and ending with dismissal.
Possible responsibilities
The above are the responsibilities that you will have to perform in any insurance company. However, do not be surprised that, in addition to these points, you will be given other tasks. For example, some insurance agents are responsible for preparing statistical reporting on insurance activities, while this reporting can be either annual, which will not cause you any problems, or weekly, which will add a serious amount of work.
Also, in small companies, you may be responsible for collecting insurance payments. What does it mean? This means that you will need to take it yourself. insurance payments from customers, and then transfer them to the appropriate bank with which your company works. In general, this is far from the only additional task that can be assigned to you, so at the interview you should always ask what specific responsibilities will be assigned to you, so that in the end it turns out that you will work for three, but while receiving the salary of one person.
Requirements
The effectiveness of the work of an insurance agent for the employer plays a very important role, and only one who fully meets the requirements can be effective. Naturally, in each company, these requirements may differ slightly, however, in most cases, you can highlight specific criteria that will be required of you everywhere. So, if you want to become an insurance agent, then you need to have sales and negotiation skills. This does not mean that you have to have a wealth of work experience. You just need to be able to communicate well with clients and convince them that they need to purchase your service. Naturally, work experience will be welcome, but if you prove in an interview that you are capable of a lot, the lack of experience will easily close their eyes. Accordingly, it follows from this that you need to be an active and communicative person, because otherwise the number of contracts you have concluded will not be high enough to satisfy your bosses. Considering the fact that you will be working in serious financial institution, you need to always look as presentable as possible. And, of course, for reporting and other similar tasks, you need to have basic knowledge personal computer... The productivity of insurance agents is what the employer is most concerned about, so you need to get down to business right away and prove that you can meet the contractual quota rather than trying to smoothly integrate into the organization. This is the only way you can succeed.
What else is welcomed in an insurance agent?
Work as an insurance agent in Moscow and less large city may be very different, and in the capital, naturally, more stringent requirements will be imposed on employees, but the level of earnings there will be higher, and prestige also plays a role. Therefore, it is also worth mentioning what is not a mandatory requirement, but what can play a role in choosing among candidates for the position of an insurance agent. For example, many large and prestigious companies look at work experience and do not take on those who are just starting out, so you will have to start in a small company. They also often look at education: in fact, secondary education is enough for you to work as an insurance agent, but in a serious company you will only be hired with a specific specialization. And, of course, most often they hire people who are ready to learn new things, even if they are accomplished specialists. The insurance industry is constantly evolving, so you need to be prepared to constantly learn something new that the insurance company can offer you. Work for agents of such enterprises is always offered in large quantities, and everything will depend on you and your activity.
How to become an insurance agent?
Naturally, working as an insurance agent in Rosgosstrakh or any other large and prestigious company will require specific education and even work experience from you, but if you are not aiming for the top right away, then all you need is a desire to work. Smaller insurance companies can organize training for you on the basics themselves, and if you do it yourself, then you will have an even better chance. It is also worth noting that recently it has become increasingly available to work as an insurance agent at home. OSAGO and other similar policies do not require you to be constantly present in the office, so it has become even more convenient to work in this specialty. So, if you have a sense of purpose and there is no lack of hard work, then you can easily start a career as an insurance agent.
The salary
Does this job pay well? An insurance agent "RESO" and an insurance agent in a smaller firm, of course, may receive different salaries. And the reason for this is the fact that you will almost never have a fixed income. This means that you will receive an agency commission from the contracts you have entered into. In small firms, it is usually around 10 percent, but if you make it to the top, you can get up to 30 percent on each contract. If you need specifics, then novice insurance agents earn about twenty thousand rubles, average salary an experienced agent can reach 60 thousand, but the limit really does not exist. There are such masters of their craft who manage to receive up to 300 thousand rubles a month. But what will work as an insurance agent at Rosgosstrakh bring you? Reviews will help you figure it out.

Law of work as an agent number 1.
Working as an insurance agent means representing the interests of the insurance company and receiving remuneration for this.
According to the reviews of those who already work in insurance, it is safe to say that working as an agent in an insurance company means having full freedom and independence. No bosses and no calls "to the carpet". No "obligations" and corporate "blizzard". Are you tired of this? From plans, directions and instructions?
If yes, then, most likely, you will certainly enjoy working as an agent of insurance companies! After all, this is a free schedule and, if necessary, an opportunity to start your own small business - an insurance agency. Yes, this profession allows you to stop working "for your uncle" and start working for yourself! Just as a theater begins with a coat rack, so the insurance business starts with working as an insurance agent. Thus, work on insurance market- this is a free schedule, prospects, growth. And, of course, profit!
Insurance professionalism = money
Law of work as an agent number 2.
To master the profession of an insurance agent is to work on your professionalism. Since the insurance agent is his own boss, you need to be disciplined. Yes, of course, in this profession, as, perhaps, in any other - there are professionals and there are amateurs. But why is it profitable to be a professional?
It is known that professionalism in the work of an insurance agent - synonym for profit... In other words, the more professional an insurance agent works, the more money he has. Let's give an example. According to reviews and statistics, you can go to the agent's work “slipshod” and earn 1000 rubles from the issued OSAGO policy, but you can be a professional who is competent, communicative and trained enough to sell an expensive insurance product, for example, CASCO. Therefore, selling CASCO, you can earn not 1,000 rubles, but 10,000 rubles. - 18,000 rubles. also from one policy. Count yourself: being a professional is 10-18 times more profitable.

Thus, newcomers to insurance, who often work from home, on average, earn 30-50 thousand rubles. per month. Insurance agent- a representative of an insurance company selling policies to its clients. The profession is suitable for those who are interested in law and social studies (see choosing a profession by interest in school subjects).
Features of the profession
No one is immune from illness and injury, theft, floods, etc. misfortunes. But you can reduce the damage from the accident by insuring your property, health and even life. You can insure anything - from a car to parts of your own body. For example, the famous dancer Rudolf Nureyev insured his legs, which he regarded as a working tool. Renowned taster Gennaro Pelizia, working for the British coffee chain Costa Coffee, insured his sensitive tongue.
An insurance policy is a document that confirms that an agreement has been concluded between a citizen and an insurance company. In other words, if an insured event suddenly occurs, i.e. the insured car is stolen, the flood will wash away the insured house or the tongue of the taster ceases to distinguish between tastes, the policyholder will receive monetary compensation.
An insurance agent can be on the staff of an insurance company or remain a freelance employee, receiving only a percentage of the amounts of contracts concluded. For a full-time employee, they usually consist of interest and a small salary. Thus, the agent's income depends on the number of policies sold, so he is actively looking for clients (policyholders). For example, he calls various companies, offering to insure property, health of employees, etc.
The agent then meets with the future policyholder and they negotiate in detail the terms of future insurance. The agent specifies what exactly the client expects from the insurance, answers all the questions that arise and, when the choice is made, draws up a contract (insurance policy).
Insurance agent status in different countries has its own characteristics. For example, in most European countries, each insurance agent works on behalf of a single insurance company. In the United States, an insurance agent is an independent entrepreneur who can be a representative of a group of companies at once. In Russia, an insurance agent can also represent several insurance companies, with each of which he has a contract. But he can work with one company as well.
